The other day I updated my phone for the very first time. I should have done it quite a while ago, but I kept putting it off. I finally took the time to do it.
Yes, I know. I’ve been living in the dark ages for a while.
Anyway, I was really excited to update it, but at the same time I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
Before I could start, I had to delete some things to create more room. I didn’t want to get rid of things. I really liked having over 1,000 pictures to look through. Who knows when I would need to go back and put one of them on Instagram or Facebook or something? So I started deleting pictures, and then I deleted a couple of other apps that I really didn’t need. Finally, I had enough room to begin the update.
It seemed to take a really long time, and before I could even use my phone, it turned itself off and on again… and I had to wait some more. All this waiting, but as I waited, God spoke to me.
He said, “Just like you had to delete things on your phone to make room for the new update, sometimes that’s what life is like with Me and you. I remove things, or ask you to let go of things so there is room for all the new things I have for you.”
Wow. I guess I had never really thought about it that way before. Sometimes those things God removes or asks us to let go of seem like really good things. As were some of the pictures I had to delete. But…those things might not be His BEST for us. Whenever God says it’s time for an update in our lives, it will take time. There will be waiting, and we will wonder what kinds of new things are on the way.
We can trust that God knows best and wants only the best for us because we are His. He loves us. If we never let go of the old, we’ll never get to experience the new.
