Summer Prep

A close friend and I once had a long discussion about how the smallest things make the biggest difference. It’s true. Every single decision and action we make greatly affects everyone around us. But what happens when you have a huge event? Does it have less influence on people? On the contrary. The big events are really just hundreds of small things affecting thousands of people. This is exactly what happens here at Tejas in preparation for and during our summer camp season.

It’s so neat to hear about the big picture – the event of summer camp. We have over 18 churches that join us to teach and invest in the lives of their students. We have over 60 high school and college summer staff that give up a summer for 3 months of in depth discipleship and service. We have over 6000 campers roll over the cattle guard to enjoy a fun, exciting week learning about Jesus. This is encouraging! But the overwhelming part is talking with each church about the individual students that have chosen to change their life for Christ. Hearing about church counselors that are moved beyond words as they see young children begin to understand Truth. Seeing young adult summer staff begin to stand firm as the men and women of God they will be the rest of their lives.

So much time, preparation, and heart goes into each and every tiny decision, and the outcome is massive. The smallest things do make the biggest difference and this is the desire of Tejas summer camp as we seek to serve, train, and encourage everyone who comes onto these camp grounds.

The lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the lord, for the lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. – 1 Kings 19:11-13
